Social Media Etiquettes
“OMG I hate this traffic”
“Check out this video of a woman slapping a taxi driver”
“#OOTD for today! So Fab!”
“@ExLover If I see you again, I’ll Kill You!”
“Life was like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get – Forrest Gump”
In today’s time, what we see, what we feel, we can easily voice it out to everyone, with the help of the Social Media. Hate the traffic, tweet it. Saw someone making a scene, post it in Facebook. Love your Outfit of the day, share it in your Instagram. We think we own the internet and we don’t owe it to anyone when they don’t like what they read, for a simple excuse, “If you don’t like what you see, unfollow me!” We think there’s no boundary to our social media freedom. That we can just post anything we want to but there’s where we are wrong. So to not be a fool in the Social Media, here are few Social Media Etiquettes to follow.
Think Before You Click!
The Golden Rule in Social Media. Before you click enter on that post you’ve been typing for almost an hour know, think! Is it offensive? Is it racist? Is it smart? Does it need to be posted online? Don’t Just post something for the sake of the number of likes it could get, think first if that post could potentially hurt someone.
Some things are meant to be private.
Yes, you’ve been hurt, but is it necessary to mention someone online for what they did to you? Should the whole world know about your fight? If you have a beef with someone, do you have to bring it online. Don’t post it, Direct message them, ping them, call them, heck, talk to them personally. The world does not need to know the fights you are having.
Is this photo Appropriate?
We see a photo we like, we share it. With a simple click our photo is shared to a wider scope. Something the photos are okay, like our OOTD, or our daily routine. But there are times the photos we are sharing aren’t social media friendly. Before sharing a photo, think how other people will perceive it. Photos of death, torture, harassment, and other foul ones shouldn’t be shared.
There’s no room for racism.
There’s simply no excuse for being a racist! Do not use racial slurs or tropes as a form of insult or even for a friendly blunter. Different Social Media Sites now have rules in regards with using racial slurs. Sometimes we think there’s no harm when we call our friends the “B” word or even the “N” word, but it’s borderline racist. There’s so much hate already going on, and let’s not bring it online.
Don’t rain on someone’s parade
We all have our Social Media Freedom, albeit it’s limited to an extent, we must make sure that our freedom isn’t stepping on someone else’s freedom. Don’t harass someone because you think their post is wrong or stupid. Don’t share photos of other people without their consent. Always think, “What will you feel, if the thing you’ll do (post) will be done to you?”.
These are just few of the different social media etiquettes we must know and abide with. We all have freedom in our Social Media but remember that this freedom doesn’t mean we can do what we want to do. Just a reminder, to always be responsible in all your posting!
